Open-source URL shortener ‘YOURLS’ gets updated with Bitly-like random keyword plugin

The popular open-source URL shortener, YOURLS, was updated to version 1.7.6. The update adds a Bitly-like URL randomizer to the core set of plugins and fixes various bugs. Users that rely on the software are also encouraged to sponsor its development via Open Collective.

YOURLS, which is short for Your Own URL Shortener, is open-source software that allows anyone to host their own URL shortener. It’s similar to Bitly, except you control everything. Ozh Richard, the creator and lead engineer for YOURLS, released version 1.7.6 of the software. Aside from various fixes, the update included a “Random Keywords” plugin that is now bundled with the software. The plugin, when activated, creates short URLs that are similar to Bitly links. Upon activation, Admin users can set the length of the randomly generated URL.
